Staro Rīga III

Last photo from the series of this year’s Staro Rīga festival. This building looked very colorful and nice. “The Odyssey of Dreams” it says if I can read it right.

Staro Rīga II

As I promised yesterday, today one more picture from festival Staro Rīga. They displayed ancient Latvian signs on the roofs of the buildings. The light and music show theme was human life from birth (child’s cry in the beginning) till death (ascending to heaven with the sound of clapping wings of a dove). Truly amazing, you have few more days to get there and see it yourself!

Staro Rīga

For five days we have this amazing light festival called Staro Rīga here. I haven’t seen much of it yet, we are planning to see most of the places and objects on 18th, but yesterday we went to Latvian Etnographic Open Air Museum to see a show that was just amazing! Tomorrow one more picture, stay tuned!

Faces Of Song And Dance Festival

Here’s some happy faces from the Song And Dance Festival. Enjoy!

Proud Patriot

A guy proudly marching with the emblem of his town.

The march was organized that first came all the masters of the festival, then all participants from different Latvian regions, then participants from Riga. But right after the masters went dancers who had to participate in the concert starting at 17:00 because the march ended at about 18:00. It took 7 hours for all participants to march. I was thinking - which number was bigger - one of spectators or participants?

Song And Dance Festival

Today officially starts the world-famous Latvian Song and Dance Festival. It takes place here once in four years, like the olympics and football World Cup. :)

This is great! People from all places of Latvia come to Riga and fills it with songs and dance for more than one week. It starts with the march of participants (in the picture above) and ends with the great concert next Saturday. So, next week more photos from the event!

By the way, you can still go to the march. It started on 11:00 and will end only after few hours!

Shortest Night

This night is known as the shortest night of the year. And may be it is because of - time flies when you’re having fun! :)

Summer Solstice

So, while we are waiting for this year’s festival, here’s something from the last year. All the coast of Latvian seaside was lit up with fires. Nice view!

Fern Blossom

We have our greatest festival coming on the night of 23rd of June. Summer Solstice!

Generally it means that everyone gathers around the fire with friends and stays awake all night long. There is a place for beer and singing also. And after having a beer or two (or a six-pack) some get bored and walk around in pairs in search of the famous fern blossom. Of course, they can’t find anything in the dark, so they stick to having something romantic instead. This is why so many people have birthday around 23rd of March. :)
