Grilling Season Has Arrived!
May 2, 2010 Daily Life
Haven’t been posting any photos here for a while. That’s because it was a long winter this year. This was also very beautiful winter with lots of snow but, I must confess - I did make almost no photos because it was freezing well below zero (even -25 Celsius sometimes), didn’t want to hurt my fingers.
But now the good season is back. From May till November you can expect some posts here time after time. And in today’s photo (by the way - taken with my HTC phone and post processed in GIMP) - grilling season has started! It’s the most wonderful time of the year! ;)

09/09/09
Sep 10, 2009 Daily Life

Yesterday was again one of those magical dates - now three nines - 09/09/09. So it was again very popular date for getting married. In the news it was that all times this day were booked long before.
It would be very interesting if someone made statistics after some 20 years - which of the dates turned out to be the luckiest - 07, 08, 09… May be 06?
Anyway - this photo isn’t from yesterday, this is other date, not so popular. But very significant to the people getting married then. Their date!
White Duck Searching For Food
May 4, 2009 Daily Life
We were visiting this animal farm called “Zaķīši”. They have a very interesting business model I think. They have rabbits, ducks, goats and some other animals. They invite city-people to visit this farm to see animals in real life. And they charge you for the entrance. And then they sell you food which you feed to their animals.
OK, I know this is fun for the kids and worth every penny! We enjoyed it too!

Street Art Gallery
Oct 5, 2008 Daily Life

I guess every city has its place where you can buy paintings by local painters. In some cities you can watch them painted. Here in Riga some time ago was one person who was drawing portraits of tourists while having a dinner in outdoor cafe, and then trying to sell the drawing. But that’s all here, you can not see anyone painting on the street. But if you want to buy, there is the possibility on the Livu square.

Autumn Fair
Sep 29, 2008 Daily Life

This set of images is from this year’s autumn fair. We have about four (I don’t know exact number) fairs taking place in the Dome square of Riga. They are all about the same, but every one of them has its own focus. In autumn you can buy vegatbles, especially pumpkins. So my focus in this picture set is on pumpkins.
Halloween is coming?

Priorities Mixed

A banner in the window of a poor apartment in Old Riga saying “World and Tomorrow against homosexuality propaganda. Me too”.
I think these guys living there first have to think about improving the quality of their life, then worry about the rest of the world…
Raining Again

Rich Town?
Feb 5, 2008 Daily Life
Baltezers is known as the town where rich people live. There are two lakes with great houses on their shores. Rich inhabitants mean big taxes paid, and big taxes paid mean big money for everyone including other people. Walking around the town you can find many places where you can wonder where the tax money goes. Like this place in the photo.
Ghetto Or What?
Feb 4, 2008 Daily Life
This weekend I went around to make some pictures in grey weather conditions. I have to learn to do that since most of the winter is exactly like that.
I went to Baltezers to look for Riga water supply musem, I thought may be there was something worth making photos. At the motorway there was a sing saying that the place is 3km away. That was the only sign I saw. I followed it but didn’t see any further signs showing direction. So, I didn’t find it. So, I can’t tell you if there is anything worth seeing.
Instead I rushed into some industrial buildings dating something around the beginning of 20th century. I like these kind of buildings, but this place looked like some ghetto or something. A carpet hanging on the rope, abandoned greenhouses, abandoned gardens… Didn’t see anyone around, so I can’t tell you more about the place.
