Late Harvest?

Guess what! We grow grapes here in Latvia. Of course, most of them are not suitable for making an excellent wine, but some manages to do even that!

By the way, Wine Hill in Sabile is the most northern open-air wineyard and it is registered in the Guinness Book of Records.

Independence Fireworks

This year again clouds were very low, so fireworks were not visible very well. This is one of the first shots, and luckily I managed to take it well. After some time all the fireworks were behind the smoke and clouds.

During our independence celebrations, the streets of Riga are decorated with flags of our Republic.

I hope for good weather this sunday - Independence Day of Latvia. I am determined to make some photos of fireworks. Let’s see what will come out - I will do it for the first time!

Candles For The Souls

11th of November 1919 is the most heroic moment in Latvian history. We declared independence in 1918 but there was still a long way to go. And on 11th of November in 1919 we did it, we showed the world that young hearts must run free! We kicked an ass of each and every Russian and German who wanted to have control of our land!

Today we put candlelights near the Presidental palace in Riga for the memory of those who died fighting for the freedom of Latvian nation!

Today more pictures from one day and one theme. It was snowing, then the snow melted away and left many beautiful drops of water.

I hope today will be some more pictures. This evening I am going to Riga where celebration of Lāčplēsis Day is taking place. This day in 1919 Latvians won their first independence kicking away the mighty army of Bermont-Avalov from the Daugava shores in Riga!

I took this picture in Garkalne near the Ropaži railway station. Sometimes it is very mixed up here in Latvia. You see, Ropaži is a real town in Latvia and it is something like 20 or more kilometers away from this place. And the station is right in the center of other town named Garkalne. Doesn’t make sense…

Snow On The Tracks

So, this is the first snow. It started to snow yesterday, but I was too lazy to go out. And the weather itself was terrible, not much fun of that snow…

Temperature dropped around zero degrees Celsius, so in some places snow was available still today. One of them was Garkalne. I took a few photos near the railway station. Other pictures will be available in the next days.

Winter is coming!
